Context: Midway through working on material for Da 5 Bloods marketing campaign, America was rocked by the tragic murder of George Floyd. In response to this harrowing event, I pitched Netflix on this new TVC as both a way to exemplify themes within the film, Da 5 Bloods, as well as reflect on the issues of systemic racism within America’s past and present cultural climate.
Approach: Through the lens of my own experience as a Black man raised in America, I structured this piece around interviews of the film's director and lead actors, alongside footage from one of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s most iconic speeches. My approach was to go beyond film marketing and illustrate an important message about how these recurring real life tragedies unfortunately tend to be forgotten over time.
